Media and Elections Training Workshop

CDES Cameroon organized a two days Media and Elections training workshop for English speaking journalists. Over 40 participants representing the print, radio, TV and online media from Bamenda, Yaounde, Douala, Buea, Limbe, Tiko, Bafoussam took part in the workshop. For two days members of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ) were engaged in learning professional techniques in elections coverage and reporting. Experiences and lessons learnt were exchanged among participants and best practices arrived at. A media map for Cameroon was established and examined including the role of the media in building the credibility of the electoral process.

The South West Regional Delegate for Communication in her opening and closing speeches appreciated the initiative of CDES Cameroon stressing the need for such trainings to be organized frequently for journalists to meet and respond to the changing challenges facing the media with respect to elections. She lauded the efforts of the Executive Director of CDES Cameroon in providing the necessary funds for the training.

Participants at the closing expressed satisfaction with the training content, materials and methodology and prayed for such trainings in the future.

After the intensed two days training on Media and Elections, participants were delighted to get their certificates. Active and full participation for two days was a requirement to receive a certificate. Due to partial participation 5 of the 40 participants were not awarded certificates of participation.
